Luanne Mason, 10830 Caroline Acres Road, described the neighborhood streets as "racetracks," said tractor-trailers use the roads in the early morning, and recounted incidents involving a near-collision with a stopped school bus and damage to mailboxes and trash cans. Mason asked the council for a traffic study, speed humps or other traffic-calming measures, and a resolution to prohibit tractor-trailers from using Caroline Acres as a cut-through.
Mario Mason, 10826 Caroline Acres Road, and other speakers echoed concerns about speed, truck traffic and safety for children and pedestrians, noting rapid residential growth in the area and expressing skepticism that occasional law-enforcement checks would be sufficient.
Other commentors from Indian Land, including Kevin Gribben, also raised broader concerns about rising traffic countywide and encouraged the council to specify which roads would be prioritized for traffic controls when seeking funding.
