The Appomattox County Board of Supervisors approved appropriation of a $150,000 NG9‑1‑1 grant awarded by the Virginia 9‑1‑1 Services Board to replace worn console furniture at the county 911 center.
John Vanoy, the county’s public safety manager, told the board the center’s furniture is failing and that he located a state grant to replace it. “Good news, bad news. Bad news is our furniture is breaking. Good news is I went out and found a grant to replace it,” Vanoy said while showing pictures of the existing consoles and the replacement estimates approved in the grant application.
Vanoy said the project will include removal of current consoles, possible wall repairs, cabling work and outside contractors for some installation tasks. The requested appropriation to account 3606‑7013 for FY2026 covers the approved grant amount; staff said no local match was required.
The board moved and approved the appropriation to accept the grant and allow the project to proceed. Supervisors praised the successful grant application and authorized the county to appropriate the funds in the FY2026 budget.
