The board adopted a technical amendment to the county transient-occupancy tax ordinance to align local reporting with new state legislation and third-party accommodation intermediaries' attestations.
The Appomattox County Board of Supervisors adopted an amendment to the county’s transient-occupancy tax ordinance to reflect recently enacted state legislation affecting third-party accommodation intermediaries such as Airbnb and Expedia.
At a publicly advertised hearing, the county attorney described the change as a technical revision to ensure local code aligns with new General Assembly rules that permit third-party platforms to attest they handle retail sales and remittance. The county attorney said the Virginia Commissioner of the Revenue Association worked with industry representatives to standardize reporting so localities can determine amounts owed from short‑term rentals.
“Basically a technical revision to our ordinance in order to comply with newly adopted legislation,” the county attorney told the board. Following the attorney’s explanation, Reverend Jones moved to adopt the ordinance amendment as printed in the meeting packet (pages 11–12); Supervisor Carter seconded the motion and the board approved the measure.
Staff recommended and the board authorized the county attorney to prepare the formal ordinance language for adoption consistent with the motion.
No public speakers registered opposition during the hearing.
