County warns of Friday phone outage; commissioners hold executive session on IT security and report no binding action

Staff said they had emailed county employees and that the county public information officer had published notices. Staff said immediate priority work would restore the transfer station and EMS phone lines and that county teams would continue work Saturday to stabilize the rest of the system.
During the meeting commissioners recessed into an executive session to discuss information‑technology security measures. The motion cited the information‑systems exception to the Kansas Open Meetings Act (IT/security measures that would be jeopardized if discussed publicly) and listed present officials including Chairman McKinley, Vice Chair Fokie, county counselor Jacob Hansen and Corey Meyer, IT director.
After returning from executive session the commission recorded that no binding action was taken. The commission’s motion and the record state that the session was held to discuss security measures for the county’s information systems and public facilities; no votes implementing security changes were recorded in open session.
