City staff told commissioners the city identified a critical need to relocate the WPC administrative offices for health and safety reasons and contracted a design-build team in 2023. "Cost for construction of the new administration building was $754,120.56," a staff member said, adding that a guaranteed maximum price covered the construction. Staff said change orders related to unexpected site conditions and utility relocations and other adjustments added roughly $17,500 in change-order costs; total project cost including design, construction and three change orders was $889,466.38.
Staff noted two minor punch-list items remained on the certificate of substantial completion: delivery and installation of a laboratory sink/countertop and minor touch-up work at the facility. The commission approved the certificate and commissioners heard that the new building has already been occupied for operations for about two weeks. A ribbon cutting was scheduled for Friday the 19th at 2:30 p.m., staff said.
