Maury County commission unanimously requests state designation of section of Highway 31 as Sterling Marlin Highway

The Maury County Commission on Aug. 18 unanimously approved a resolution asking Tennessee highway officials to designate a portion of State Highway 31 from Carters Creek (State Route 246) to Spring Hill High School in Columbia the "Sterling Marlin Highway."
Commissioner Grooms moved the resolution; Commissioner Pravetti seconded. Kitty (speaker in the record) read the resolution and described Sterling Marlinas a native of the county who built a national reputation as a NASCAR driver. Jimmy Campbell and other family friends spoke in support, citing Marlin racing accomplishments and local ties. The commission vote was recorded as unanimous by the chairman.
Sterling Marlin briefly spoke and thanked the commission; County Clerk Joey Allen also offered remarks praising Marlins representation of Maury County.
The resolution asks county staff to advise state highway and appropriate state officials of the request to designate the roadway in Marlins honor. The measure, recorded in the meeting minutes as resolution 082520, passed with 20 votes in the affirmative.
