Board approves Albertus Magnus changes adding second med-surg course and direct high-school admission to BSN

Albertus Magnus presented the proposals through Dr. Jeffrey, who said the college will add Med-Surg II (a 6-credit course with clinical) and fold the existing population-health content into the community nursing course. To keep total program credits steady, the college will remove one elective.
Dr. Jeffrey also described a new direct-admission pathway for qualified high-school graduates who meet specific eligibility criteria. The college said students seeking direct admission must present an official high-school transcript showing completion of graduation requirements with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5; a grade of B or higher in biology and chemistry; algebra/geometry coursework with grades of B or higher; and two letters of recommendation (one from a high-school science teacher and one from a high-school math teacher). Standardized testing is optional. The college confirmed applicants must be high-school graduates to enter the program.
Cindy (board member) moved to accept both the curriculum modification and the BSN direct-admission policy; Diane seconded. In a roll-call vote the board recorded unanimous approval among voting members present: Cindy Aye; Lisa Aye; Elizabeth Yes; Diane Aye; Gina Reiner Aye. (Board member Sal had declared a conflict and recused himself earlier.)
Dr. Jeffrey said the curriculum change is intended to give students more med-surgical preparation before clinical practice; the college also said it will track outcomes for the new direct-admit cohort and reconsider admission thresholds if necessary.
