Court authorizes $10,500 site survey to study relocating pickleball courts to Millennium Park

The Boyle County Fiscal Court authorized county staff to sign an agreement for a $10,500 site evaluation to study moving county pickleball courts from White Park to Millennium Park.

County Administrator Julie Wagner told the court that the county’s architect had inspected the proposed Millennium Park site and recommended core borings, a site survey and other evaluations before final design. The firm JRA submitted the $10,500 proposal to perform the survey and associated geotechnical work; the City of Danville agreed to reimburse half the cost.

Wagner said the architect believes pickleball courts and related amenities (bathrooms/locker rooms, an expanded skate park, sand volleyball and a community pool) can be arranged in the park layout as a compact, multi‑use cluster. She noted the proposed layout aligns with the original 1999 Millennium Park master plan and highlighted available parking adjacent to the proposed site.

The court voted to authorize signing the agreement; Wagner said the county will return with a fuller contract and cost estimates once the site evaluation and schematic design work are completed. The JRA contract referenced in the packet will be revisited because site change alters the scope; Wagner explained that a new contract reflecting the final plan and pricing will be presented later.

Magistrates and county staff emphasized minimizing grading and construction costs and maximizing existing parking and adjacency to other park amenities. The court’s action funds preliminary site work only; any construction, pool, or facility authorization will require subsequent approvals and funding decisions.

County staff also invited local pickleball organizers to view the site; no construction schedule or cost estimate beyond the site survey amount was provided at the meeting.
