Boyle County renews five‑year contract with Republic Services; county staff say back taxes resolved

The Boyle County Fiscal Court voted Sept. 9 to approve a five‑year contract with Republic Services to continue collection and recycling services countywide.
Angie Munsey, the county recycling director who represented Republic’s local operations at the meeting, told the court that Republic had caught up on outstanding property tax obligations and resolved back amounts spanning prior fiscal years. Munsey said the company still owed an “education” payment that comes from a different funding source, but she said Republic had committed to remitting the outstanding amounts and that the issue would not impede contract execution.
Magistrates discussed the contract length. County staff and several magistrates said they preferred limiting the term to five years rather than a longer extension; the court approved the five‑year term.
Magistrates also noted operational changes since the previous contract: equipment changes, service adjustments at specific collection points, and rapid responses to special events (Magistrate comments cited Republic arriving on short notice for festival weekend needs). No changes to service levels or new fees were recorded in the public discussion at the meeting.
The court approved the contract by voice vote. County staff said they will return an executed contract to the court record and monitor Republic’s remediation of the lingering education payment.
A copy of the contract and any amendments will be a public record when filed with county administration.
