Bradenton proclaims Aug. 13 as Clarence Love Sr. Day

Mayor Jean Brown read the proclamation noting that Love served on the Bradenton City Council from 1976–1980 and was the first Black elected official in Manatee County; the proclamation cited his work on Section 8 programs, community redevelopment initiatives, and neighborhood infrastructure improvements. Council members and residents recalled Love’s commitment to sidewalks, street lighting and parks. Councilwoman Coachman led the reading and the mayor closed the remarks with condolences and an invitation for the community to honor his legacy.
The council did not take formal action related to the proclamation; members said they planned to attend funeral services and to participate in planned reinvestment in Love Park.
