North San Diego County Genealogical Society reports high turnout for classes, plans fall and spring programs

Janine Dunn, liaison for the North San Diego County Genealogical Society, updated the Carlsbad City Library Board of Trustees on Aug. 27, reporting strong attendance for recent programs and previewing a fall lineup of speakers.
Dunn said a beginning and refresher course filled to capacity with 55 registrants and received positive evaluations. A memoir writing class also drew participants who reported building relationships through class work.
Looking ahead, Dunn said the society has scheduled a program on Nov. 1 and will host notable speakers — including Judy Russell for a DNA interest group and Thomas McKinsey for a seminar on AI topics — and that recent AI‑related events attracted 82 and then 242 attendees in recent sessions. She also said 19 people have already signed up for a 2026 event, though the group faces a lodging issue because a hotel is being torn down and an alternate stay must be identified.
"Everybody who goes has been so excited about what happened there," Dunn said of prior seminars, and she emphasized the value of planned research assistance and the society’s volunteers who can help patrons with multilingual research needs.
Dunn told trustees that some lower‑use offerings such as the legacy users group will be shifted from regular in‑person meetings to one‑on‑one Zoom help to better serve individual needs.
