Broadwater County weed board conditionally approves subdivision plan pending site inspection and adjusted herbicide plan

Broadwater County weed board members voted to accept a subdivision plan on the condition that staff perform a site inspection and require adjustments to the applicant’s herbicide plan if inspectors find additional weeds.

The board discussed an application for division of a parcel of less than 2 acres into a single-family dwelling lot. County staff said the applicant’s hand-drawn map identified infestations of white top and thistles and that the parcel borders state land and a canal. Board members and staff noted the parcel includes a stack yard area and pivot-corner acreage where weeds have been observed.

At the meeting a board member moved to accept the subdivision plan “contingent upon the site inspection and adjustment of a chem plan if necessary.” A second was recorded; the motion was approved by voice vote and the board chair announced the motion passed.

Board members said they expect Jessica, the county staff member, to conduct a site visit and to require the owner to adjust the herbicide application plan if additional weeds are found. The owner had listed use of Chaparral on application materials; during discussion staff identified the active ingredient cited as aminopyralid (commonly used to control certain broadleaf weeds). Members recommended a fall application timing as well as spring treatment where appropriate.
