City staff said the city maintains a reserve backhoe that is more than 20 years old and not fully reliable, and that the 2015 unit’s failure has limited the department’s ability to perform routine work. Staff also noted the city expects a small refund or credit of about $1,200 tied to the transaction.
At the regular council meeting, Council member Sally Brock moved to suspend the rules so the streets department could proceed immediately; the motion was seconded by Carrie Morton. The council then voted on the purchase of part number 5801849053R for the 2015 backhoe. The roll call recorded the following yes votes: Sally Brock; Dietra Dunlap; Steve Harvey; Rachel Kirby; Carrie Morton; Carrie Youngblood; Mayor Chestnut. The motion carried.
No additional conditions, contract terms, or vendor names for the motor were provided in the meeting record. The repair cost discussed at committee covered the motor only; staff said installation labor would be charged separately and is expected to be subcontracted.
