Summary
Superintendent Dr. Sarmani said weapons-detection systems are installed at the high schools, fencing projects are underway at the Manor High complex paid with 2019 bond safety funds, and a 2025 bond proposal would fund additional safety and camera upgrades without raising taxes.
Superintendent Dr. Sarmani reported at the Aug. 18 board meeting that weapons-detection systems had been installed at Manor ISD high schools and that the district is studying system upgrades for middle schools.
She said three fencing projects are planned at the Manor High School complex to create secure walkways between campuses and athletic facilities; one of the fencing projects was starting immediately to create a secured passage between the early college campus and the senior high. Dr. Sarmani emphasized that the current safety upgrades are being funded from the safety-and-security portion of the 2019 bond and that a 2025 bond proposal under consideration would include additional safety upgrades and, she said, would not raise taxes.
The superintendent also said there is a plan to upgrade cameras at elementary schools, but that 2019 bond funds currently being used to upgrade middle-school cameras will be exhausted before elementary camera projects would begin, so another funding source would be needed.
She framed these measures as part of an overall safety-and-security program and noted that some projects would require new bond funding. Trustees acknowledged the work and thanked transportation and grounds staff for their efforts supporting the opening of the school year.
