Council approves $4,000 grant for Hot Rods on a Mission car show supporting local mission

The Pryor City Council approved a $4,000 grant to Hot Rods on a Mission to support a two-day car show scheduled for Sept. 12–13, 2025. Organizers said proceeds support a local mission’s Thanksgiving and Christmas programs.

Charlie, the event organizer, told the council the show will include a Friday night cruise and a Saturday car show, and that organizers expect about 300 cars this year. "It's a 2 day event ... we're expecting a little over 300 cars this year," Charlie said, adding that the money would help pay for trophies, insurance, prize money and concession costs.

Council members discussed whether grant funding would materially increase attendance and noted the event attracted out-of-state vehicles and hotel stays in its first year. Council member Majors voiced reservations about whether the grant would change attendance; Majors recorded a "no" vote while other members voted to approve the grant.

The council’s notes indicate the grant funds will be handled by reimbursement after organizations submit receipts, and that 10% of event proceeds will be set aside for future year's needs as described by the organizer.

Organizer background Charlie said sponsors covered roughly $6,500 of last year’s cost and that the show raised about $3,500 last year, which was given to the mission to fund food boxes and toys for families.

Ending Council members encouraged organizers to continue documenting hotel stays and local spending so the city can assess how grants affect tourism and sales-tax revenue.
