Airport manager reports runway reopened, above-ground tank cleared by inspector, higher Jet A sales and Young Eagles sign-ups

The airport manager reported operational updates to the City Airport Commission, including improved fuel revenues, runway and taxiway work, a new above-ground fuel tank approved by the final inspector and pending certificate of approval, equipment purchases, lease and vehicle disposition discussions, and an upcoming Young Eagles event.

Manager's report The manager said the airport had a better month for fuel numbers driven by higher Jet A sales, including two flights of marine helicopters accounting for about 2,000 gallons and several business jets. The manager reported approximate revenue of $46,000 for the month and said Sadie provided additional sales records that made the accounting figures closer to the manager's numbers.

The manager described outreach planned around an aviation education event: Young Eagles will provide 20 flight slots across two sessions; as of the manager's update there were nine slots remaining and the deadline for signups is Sept. 1. The manager said the airport intends to host a coffee-and-donuts breakfast and hot dogs for lunch during the event.

Runway and above-ground tank The manager reported the runway is back open and that Bravo 4 is the only accessible route on and off the runway while work continues on Bravo 1'3 and taxiway lights. The manager said the anticipated date for restoring north-south access remained on track for September as of the meeting.

On fuel storage, the manager said the above-ground tank has been approved by the final inspector and is operational, holding about 600 gallons, but the airport is waiting on the certificate of approval from OCC before putting it into full use. The manager described exploring cross-loading from a tanker as a way to move fuel quickly into the approved above-ground tank once the certificate is received and said staff would coordinate with Brian on that option.

Equipment and repairs Staff discussed a newly purchased hydrovac (described in the meeting as a unit that uses high-pressure water and vacuum to excavate a slurry and reduce surface damage) that will make utility work and runway/taxiway sweeping easier. The manager said the hydrovac is useful near unmarked fiber or gas lines because it reduces damage compared with heavy equipment.

The manager also reported a window delivery error: the supplier delivered a single-pane, untinted window instead of the ordered double-pane tinted unit. The commission discussed holding the incorrect window and reordering the specified unit; the manager said the typical lead time for orders was averaging about three weeks.

Leases, vehicles and next steps On leases, the manager reported hangar leases are nearly fully occupied and ground leases are still in process. The manager and commissioners discussed reviewing long-standing hangar lease documents with the city attorney to confirm terms after decades of service.

Commissioners and staff discussed a Freightliner jet-fuel truck that has depreciated and options for its disposition, including contacting the original vendor about a replacement vehicle and using the Freightliner as a trade-in. Commissioners asked the manager to provide multiple options for the truck and tank transfer on next month's agenda.

Other logistics The manager reported collecting $886.44 of interest on an ICS account in July and said a tanker delivery had been used to replenish in-ground fuel when necessary. Staff also mentioned plans for a light pole installation near the tank area; timing for that work was not specified.
