Grand Prairie planning commission shifts meeting days to first and third Tuesdays

Cheryl Smith, chair of the City of Grand Prairie Planning and Zoning Commission, told commissioners on Aug. 11 that the commission’s regular meeting dates will change to the first and third Tuesday of each month.
Smith said the change was driven by “the new state law posting requirements” and scheduling conflicts with City Council meeting times. She told the commission the move should make meeting dates more consistent and easier for applicants to track because council already meets on Tuesdays.
Staff explained that on dates when a council meeting and a Planning and Zoning Commission briefing fall on the same evening, the two bodies will be split across rooms — with City Council in chambers and Planning and Zoning in the briefing room — and signage and staff will direct applicants to the correct location.
No formal vote was taken during the briefing. The change was presented as a staff-led scheduling adjustment and will take effect moving forward, subject to standard agenda posting and notice requirements.
Commissioners asked procedural questions about overlaps and logistics; staff said signage and on-site direction would mitigate confusion when meetings overlap.
The commission held no public hearing or final action on the change during the Aug. 11 briefing; the item was presented for information and coordination only.
