Carmel International Film Festival returns in October with Golden Bough schedule and notable guests

Lawrence Rek, a director and producer leading the revival of the Carmel International Film Festival, briefed the Carmel-by-the-Sea City Council on Aug. 5 about plans for the festival this October at the Golden Bough Theatre.
Rek said he underwrote a relaunch last year with private funds and described the festival as continuing an early Carmel tradition of international film screenings. He outlined highlights for the October program: a screening of a film about the Monterey Marine Sanctuary narrated by Clint Eastwood; a Ukrainian documentary with the filmmaker traveling to Carmel for the screening; a film featuring talent connected to Ray Romano’s family; and work by composers and filmmakers with Academy recognition. Rek said tickets are on sale now at the festival website and invited the public to attend.
Rek credited co-director Annette Anderson for programming experience and said the festival seeks to promote Carmel as an arts destination while supporting local businesses and artists. He said the festival will be staged at the Golden Bough Theatre and urged public participation.
