The Carmel-by-the-Sea City Council reviewed recommendations from an ad hoc committee on Aug. 5 to reduce the proposed square footage for new police and public-works facilities and instructed staff to prepare a competitive request for proposals for architectural services.
The ad hoc, formed earlier in 2025, re-examined previously proposed footprints and recommended smaller interior and exterior area targets for both a replacement police station and a new public-works facility. Public Works Director Ken Wysocki told the council the goal is to be “cost conscious” and to right-size both buildings while addressing immediate structural and operational problems in the existing facilities.
