Ellis County orders Nov. 4 special election on 17 constitutional amendments; adds Knights of Columbus as early voting site

The Ellis County Commissioners Court ordered a special election to be held Nov. 4, 2025 on 17 proposed constitutional amendments submitted by the 89th Texas Legislature and approved an early voting schedule and site list, adding the Knights of Columbus as a full-duration early voting location.

Elections Administrator Jana provided the list of 17 propositions that will appear on the county ballot and told the court that counties must order the election by Aug. 18 to finalize participating entities that will share election costs. Jana told the court staff expected some entities to join the county to share costs and asked the court to order the election so the county can proceed with preparations.

The court approved six early voting locations for the duration of early voting to address anticipated long ballots and parking concerns: Ellis County Woman’s Building (main Waxahachie location), Ellis Subcourthouse (Precinct 1/Innis area), Midlothian Conference Center, Palmer ISD Annex Building, Red Oak Municipal Center, and Knights of Columbus (added to serve north Waxahachie area). The Knights of Columbus location will be open the entire early voting period; the addition was proposed to help speed voter processing and alleviate parking at other sites.

The motion to order the election was made by Commissioner Lane Grayson and seconded by Commissioner Stinson; the motion passed unanimously. The early voting schedule was approved on the same motion pattern.

Ending: Jana said the county will publish the early voting schedule and finalize participating entities before the Aug. 18 deadline; sample ballots and detailed schedules will be posted on the county website once finalized.
