The planning commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of a Galveston landmark designation for the Joseph and Elizabeth Treeacre House at 2928 Avenue K, a late-19th‑century side‑hall townhouse that staff described as a significant local example of vernacular carpentry and decorative gallery work.
Catherine, a staff member presenting the item, told commissioners the house was built in 1889 and noted its “double gallery on the main facade trimmed with queen and sunburst brackets.” She said the Landmark Commission considered the application the prior week and voted unanimously to recommend approval; staff likewise recommended approval and noted the City Council will make a final determination at its Aug. 28 meeting.
Commissioners did not receive public opposition at the planning commission public hearing; the planning commission took a motion to approve 25PDash025 and passed it unanimously. The planning commission packet notes 33 notices were mailed and one returned in favor.
