The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved two appointments to the county Board of Retirement on Wednesday and waived portions of county appointment policy to expedite the process following a recent resignation.
Michael Kennedy resigned from the Board of Retirement effective July 3, 2025, leaving a seat open through Dec. 31, 2027. The clerk posted the vacancy and received six applications. Under county policy 2‑10, the normal process would involve individual board offices submitting recommended candidates and additional meetings; the board voted to waive two provisions of that policy in order to move forward.
After waiving the policy provisions, the board appointed Harry Hatch to fill the vacancy through Dec. 31, 2025, and appointed John Johnson Jr. to begin Jan. 1, 2026 and serve the remainder of the term through Dec. 31, 2027. The board’s recorded action was unanimous.
