District recommends restructuring high‑school guidance division chair position

Staff recommended restructuring the division chair position into a counseling department chair model previously used by the district. Under the proposed model, a counselor would fill the chair role with a reduced caseload but would not perform staff evaluations; evaluations would be completed by other high‑school administrators. The counselor in the chair role would receive additional per diem days beyond the standard 10 in the counselor contract.
The committee was told the division chair position was established about three years ago to provide dedicated administrative support for the counseling department, and staff recommended the restructure for the 2025–26 school year. The recommendation will be presented for action at the next full board meeting in August.
No formal decision was made at the July 28 Curriculum Committee meeting; staff said they will bring a formal recommendation to the board.
