Community health event proposed at district resilience education center with Compagnos en Salud

Marissa Martinez, assistant director for the Resilience Education Center, told the committee that Compagnos en Salud is seeking a partnership with Aurora East USD 131 to hold a community health event at the Resilience Education Center on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Martinez said the two‑hour event would offer free adult health screenings through a community partnership with VNA Healthcare and would make community resources and guest speakers available to Hispanic and underserved populations. Martinez said Compagnos en Salud has restructured a formerly large annual event into four smaller events across the year and that the district would host one of those events if board action is approved in August.
Board members expressed support for using the rec center as a community resource and thanked staff for pursuing partnerships. Martinez said the proposal will be brought before the full board for action at the August meeting if staff proceed.
No formal agreement was approved at the committee meeting; staff characterized the presentation as an informational step preceding possible board action.
