Parent speaker urges district to expand Hispanic/Latinx representation and address math achievement gaps

Paul Guerrero, a community member and parent, used the public‑comment period to urge the district to strengthen representation of Hispanic and Latinx leaders in curricula and to address gaps in math achievement. Guerrero said California’s Fair Education Act requires inclusive study of diverse contributions and asked the district to provide teachers with brief curriculum guidance to show students role models who look like them.
Guerrero also described personal experience as a parent of a high‑achieving Latinx child and argued the district is missing students with high potential who are not being identified or placed in advanced math. He asked the board to step up outreach and curriculum guidance so classrooms regularly expose students to diverse leaders and identify academically advanced students across demographics.
The board acknowledged the comment and said it would consider the points raised when reviewing curricular and equity efforts.
