Blair County approves bridge payments, contract change and small facilities repairs

During its Sept. 25 meeting the Blair County Board of Commissioners approved several infrastructure and facilities items.
The board approved application for payment No. 5, the final payment to Charles J. Merlot Inc. for County Bridge 69 (also known as Sergeant First Class Thomas V. Dodson Memorial Bridge) in the amount of $304,897.31. County staff also presented Contract Change Order No. 1 with Charles J. Merlot Inc., showing a decrease of $26,578.31 and a revised total contract cost of $1,235,428.19; commissioners approved the change order.
Separately, the board approved an invoice for Bridge Number 73, described as a bridge removal project. The invoice presented was ECMS submission invoice No. 1, part 1 (PE phase) in the amount of $1,947.09 from Keller Engineers; staff said expenses are 95% reimbursable and will be paid from the Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund.
The board approved a quote from Ken Wertz Hauling and Septic Service for septic-system pumping at the Fort Roberdeau farmhouse and White Oak Hall in the amount of $775.
County presenters noted the Merlot contract work was completed under challenging circumstances — one commissioner referenced a bridge that had a side damaged — and praised the contractor’s work. All infrastructure items were approved by voice votes during the meeting; the record shows “Aye.”
