Blair County register of wills and recorder of deeds announces retirement effective Dec. 31

Anita, Blair County’s register of wills and recorder of deeds, announced during the Board of Commissioners meeting on Sept. 25 that she will retire effective Dec. 31, 2025.

The announcement came during the public-comment portion of the meeting, where Anita said she has served the county for six years and thanked staff, colleagues and residents for their support. “It’s been my distinct honor and privilege to serve the people of the county,” she said. She added that her office will work to ensure “a smooth transition for the incoming appointment for the register recorder.”

Commissioners and other officials spoke in praise of Anita’s office and leadership during the meeting. One commissioner said Anita’s office was “the office that smiles more than anyone else” and described it as “the most welcoming office.” Another commissioner thanked her for “sticking up for your people” and encouraged her to enjoy time with family in retirement.

A special notice of retirement for Anita was included in the consent agenda that the board considered later in the meeting. The consent agenda — which included warrants, payroll, budget transfers, a parade road-closure request and personnel items — was approved by the board during the meeting.

The register of wills and recorder of deeds did not provide a surname in the meeting record. She identified her grandson by name and noted plans to spend more time with family after her retirement. The board did not discuss a specific appointment process or timeline for selecting her replacement during the meeting.

The Board of Commissioners will reconvene at its next scheduled meeting on Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. in the same meeting room.
