District to schedule painting refreshes one school per month to maximize limited staffing

District staff described a phased approach to painting and minor classroom refreshes across schools, saying the district currently employs a single district-wide painter and will therefore focus on one school per month to maximize capacity.

Staff said they are working with principals to identify spaces that need refreshes and expect to finalize that list over the next two weeks. "We will focus on 1 school per month," a district staff member said.

The district plans to use swing spaces, such as libraries, to temporarily relocate classes during painting. Staff noted East Lansdowne and Evans recently received paint refreshes and the ninth-grade academy will receive a full paint job as part of its larger renovation; those three will be excluded from the immediate painting rotation. Staff said emergency painting and repairs would still take precedence when unplanned damage occurs.

Board members raised questions about capacity and swing-space availability for some schools that lack functional libraries; staff responded they will work with school leaders to identify appropriate swing spaces and that middle schools would be scheduled later in the cycle because several had recent work.

Staff did not provide an overall schedule that lists specific schools and dates in the meeting but said they will finalize identification of spaces within the next two weeks and then publish a schedule for the remainder of the school year.
