The Lewisburg City Council on Aug. 12 approved a package of ordinances and resolutions covering zoning changes, park renaming and administrative financial housekeeping, while voting to deny two annexation resolutions requested by the county highway department.
Council members voted unanimously to adopt the second reading of Ordinance 25-09 to rezone property at 650 Spring Place Road from I-1 (light industrial) to C-2 (intermediate business). Planning staff told the council the Planning Commission had given a favorable recommendation (5–0). Councilman Burns moved the ordinance and Councilman Crutcher seconded; the roll call registered ayes from all present council members.
The council also approved a motion to sell Fire Squad 1 (a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD 4x4) via GovDeals with a reserve bid of $15,000; the motion passed on a roll-call vote. Council members approved Resolution 25-16 renaming WP Johnson Park (Jones Circle) to Willie J. Mitchell Park and Resolution 25-17 dedicating WP Johnson Way (the portion of Hill Street leading to Greater First Baptist Church) as part of the council’s commemorative naming actions.
