Homeowner John Machigi sought a variance and a finding for work on a preexisting nonconforming house. Machigi told the board he planned to keep the existing footprint and add a second story to accommodate a growing family; the proposed porch is a traditional open farmer's porch that projects into the front setback.
Board members noted Machigi had submitted three letters of neighbor support and that the cul-de-sac lot has an unusual shape that supports a finding of hardship. The board also said the porch and the second story fit visually with neighboring homes on the circle.
After closing the public hearing, members voted to approve the requested variance for the porch and the finding for the second-story addition, subject to the conditions discussed in the plans. The applicant acknowledged acceptance of the conditions.
