Council approves special-use permit for used-vehicle dealer at 24260 Telegraph

The Southfield City Council voted Aug. 25 to approve a special use permitting renovation and reuse of the building at 24260 Telegraph Road for used-vehicle sales with accessory vehicle repair.
Councilwoman Hogue moved to approve the special use, and Councilwoman Haynes supported the motion; the motion carried.
Planner staff identified the correct address as 24260 Telegraph (a transposition error in some agenda paperwork was noted) and said the site is zoned I-1 (industrial). The petitioner’s consultant, Mike Sima, told the council the property had been vacant for more than five years, had suffered damage and overgrowth, and that the purchaser plans a cleanup and building facelift. “My client cleaned it up, and he's willing to put a business in it,” Sima told the council, adding the dealer will sell only used cars and will repave roughly 20,000 square feet and plant trees at the front of the site.
Planning staff said the backyard area would be used for vehicle display and that the site’s parking and building elevations meet the criteria referenced by the planning commission. No members of the public spoke during the hearing.
The council’s approval included the corrected address; the petitioner was reminded to follow the conditions and site improvements outlined by city planning and building departments before opening.
No fines, appeals or conditions beyond the normal planning approvals were announced at the meeting.
