Staff reports: meeting location change, September site visits, trail designation and zero‑emission depot award

City staff gave several operational updates and recognitions near the end of the Aug. 19 Transportation Commission meeting.
Public works director Jason Shaikowski told commissioners the council chambers will close for roughly six months after the October meeting for carpet, seating and foyer upgrades; commission meetings will be held in Civic Center Rooms 1 and 2 during that period. "I just wanted to give you a heads up," Shaikowski said.
Staff also announced a September site‑visit program: the commission will meet as usual and then visit key transit sites and a planned bike trail location; logistics will be provided later.
Trail designation and awards
Alternative Transportation Division staff reported that Miners Ravine Trail has been designated a National Recreation Trail by the U.S. Department of the Interior, a recognition that will add visibility and inclusion in national trail guides. Staff noted Miners Ravine and the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail are the only urban trails in the region with that designation.
Staff also reported that the city’s zero‑emission bus depot and fleet parking project at the corporation yard received a 2025 Sacramento Project of the Year award from the American Public Works Association. The project includes electric‑bus charging infrastructure, redesigned bus circulation and drainage improvements to accommodate future expansion.
Other brief items
A commission member noted a League of American Bicyclists survey for Roseville’s Bicycle Friendly Community recertification; staff encouraged residents to complete the survey by Oct. 5. The meeting adjourned following the staff reports.
