Parish said the owner came forward with required paperwork and that staff had asked him to submit an acknowledgment form and a repair timeline for review before proceeding further on the demolition ordinance.
After hearing from Vasquez, who said he was the new owner and was “trying to do the work” and obtaining permits, Mayor Pro Tem Platon Moore moved to adopt the demolition ordinance; Council member Andrew seconded. Council member Moore and others said the city typically prefers renovation when feasible and that the demolition ordinance can be repealed if the owner completes repairs and staff recommends rescission. The motion passed by voice vote; the council recorded no roll-call tally in the transcript.
On appointments, the council confirmed Dallas Clark to the Parks and Recreation Commission for a term effective immediately and expiring July 1, 2028; Holly Davis to the High Point Theater Advisory Commission for a term expiring June 1, 2028; and reappointed John Benzini and John Thomas to the Piedmont Triad Regional Water Authority with terms beginning Oct. 1 and expiring Sept. 30, 2028. Each appointment was approved by voice vote after the council called for motions and seconds.
