Planning staff plans September resident survey as part of 2025 housing report

At the Aug. 7, 2025 meeting, the Planning Department presented a status update on the 2025 housing report and proposed public‑engagement steps, including a survey of real estate professionals and a resident survey planned for September.
Yoyoung Ding, the department’s planning and community development intern, said staff sent a 24‑question survey to local real estate agents on June 23 to capture supply‑side market information (market trends, affordability, inventory, buyer/seller profiles and barriers). Ding said staff is preparing a two‑version resident survey (one for renters, one for owners) with about 15 questions each and an expected completion time of three minutes.
Staff recommended sending the resident survey in September to coincide with the return of students and increased population. Distribution planned methods include the city’s monthly newsletter, social media, news media and requests that landlords and housing partners share the survey. Commissioners asked that surveys include a question to distinguish student renters from year‑round residents; staff confirmed that question is included.
Staff asked commissioners to help publicize the realtor survey and said they would accept follow‑up suggestions by email. No formal action was taken; the item was an informational update.
