Arts Commission updates committee assignments, adds members to public-art subcommittees and tables leadership vote

The Carlsbad Arts Commission reviewed and approved amended committee assignments for fiscal year 2025–26 at its Aug. 7 meeting, adding an additional commissioner to two public-art project subcommittees and recording nominations for the new slots.
Staff introduced a draft roster of committee assignments and explained the amendments were intended to ensure every commissioner had at least one assignment. Commissioners debated adding more members to the public-arts project subcommittees to broaden participation in oversight of projects such as the Monroe Street pool and Robertson Ranch Park.
A motion to add an additional commissioner to the public-arts project subcommittees passed unanimously by hand vote. Commissioner Michelle Bridal was nominated and, after a second, was approved to serve on the Monroe Street pool project committee by a unanimous show-of-hands vote. Commissioner Nasiri was nominated and approved unanimously to serve on the Robertson Ranch Park committee.
Commissioners then moved to adopt the committee assignments as amended. Commissioner Bridal moved to approve the amended assignments and Commissioner Feroni seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The body also opened nominations to select a chair and vice chair for fiscal year 2025–26. After discussion about the responsibilities of leadership, a motion to table the chair/vice-chair selection until the next meeting carried 4–2 (in favor to opposed). The commission recorded no public speakers on these agenda items.
The commission did not take action on a separate request raised at the meeting to eliminate a “business outreach” committee; staff said that change would need to be placed on a future agenda. Staff noted timelines for projects: the Monroe Street pool project is expected to start this fiscal year, while Robertson Ranch Park’s schedule is still tentative.
