Council praises Folsom street safety design, moves project forward under SEAP

Boulder City Council on Aug. 5 reviewed the community and environmental assessment process (SEAP) for the Folsom Street Safety Improvement Projects and expressed broad support for the concept design and its inclusion in the Core Arterial Network (CAN).
Council members thanked the transportation department for the plan and said the redesign would improve safety and the downtown experience while having minimal impact on vehicle travel times. Council member Ryan noted the project has been in development for more than a decade and said the staff work was strategic and thoughtful. Council member Tina praised the aesthetic and configuration but asked staff to ensure long-term funds for maintenance so the corridor remains inviting and functional.
Council member Matt said the project demonstrated the city’s ability to move quickly and well during the CAN initiative, and other members underscored accommodations for the Boulder Boulder community event.
No council member requested a call-up for this item; council therefore did not place the Folsom SEAP on further review at this meeting. Staff said funding availability would guide the project’s timing and that the plan aims to address safety and multimodal connectivity along Folsom Street.
Council’s comments will be part of the administrative record as staff proceed with design refinement and funding identification.
