Sedgwick County staff on Wednesday described an amendment to the county stormwater-management code that would restore downstream channel-protection considerations previously removed in 2016 and move day-to-day administrative authority to the public works director.
Lynn, the public works director, told commissioners the change acknowledges that Environmental Resources has been reorganized under Public Works and formally transfers management responsibilities for the stormwater code to Lynn. Lynn said Susan will continue to handle much of the operational work as Lynn's designee.
The amendment would also extend water-quality and quantity considerations countywide instead of limiting them to the urbanized zone, returning certain channel-protection standards to the code that were removed in 2016. Lynn said the change does not represent a large operational shift in routine duties but formalizes countywide authority and recognizes the departmental reorganization.
Commissioners did not take a final vote during the agenda-review briefing. The amendment is scheduled for formal consideration at the Aug. 13 commission meeting.
