Board approves agenda change and consent items, then moved into executive sessions

The Gilbert Unified District governing board voted on three procedural items July 29: approval of the agenda with a single change, adoption of the consent agenda and a vote to move into three executive sessions.

The board approved a motion to amend the agenda so that agenda item 8 would be moved to after agenda item 12 and before item 13. The motion passed by voice vote with no recorded opposition; the board president noted the change would place the executive-session action item after the scheduled executive sessions.

The board then approved the consent agenda as presented. The president called for the vote and the motion passed by voice vote with no opposition recorded.

Finally, the board approved a motion to convene three executive sessions. The president put the three sessions on the record and cited Arizona Revised Statutes 15-843(A) and Arizona Revised Statutes 38-431.03(A)(2), (3) and (4). The executive sessions were described on the record as follows: (1) confidential student-discipline records and consideration of a hearing officer’s recommendation to expel; (2) consultation with the board’s attorneys and instruction to counsel regarding a contract under negotiation and an intergovernmental agreement with EVIT; and (3) consultation with attorneys and instruction regarding contracts related to the superintendent search. The motion to move into executive session passed by voice vote.

The meeting then recessed to the conference room for the executive-session vote and subsequent adjournment.
