The Arlington County Board unanimously approved on June 18 a three‑year extension of the site plan for 1401 Wilson Boulevard (Site Plan No. 429) and an amendment to an ordinance of encroachment covering multiple small encroachments tied to the project.
Courtney Badger, planning staff, said the project — originally approved in February 2014 — requested an extension of the site‑plan term and ten related encroachments that were due to expire in July. Badger summarized the noticing the county and applicant performed: notification in the Washington Times per Virginia law, placards on site per the zoning ordinance and certified mailings to abutting property owners and the condominium association leadership for Turnberry Towers. She said the county had not received objections from the civic association or the condominium president.
An applicant representative described additional outreach; the applicant reported certified deliveries to Turnberry Towers’ general manager and association president with delivery confirmed on May 16. Vice Chair DeFrante moved the extension; Ms. Coffey seconded. The board voted unanimously to extend the site plan and encroachment terms to June 30, 2028.
Board members thanked planning staff for processing a batch of expiration extensions before the fiscal year end and noted that future amended site plans will come forward with more current design information and community engagement.
