Commissioners support countywide service day; staff to list project on JustServe

Commissioners discussed organizing a countywide service day that would allow county employees time during the workday to participate in community service projects and invite the public to join. The proposal included rotating staff so offices remain open while employees spend an hour or two on a county-selected project such as trail work, grounds cleanup at fairgrounds or reservoir maintenance.

Staff said the county would post projects on JustServe.org so community members could sign up. One staff member told the commission, "it is not necessarily just county employees but folks in our community that are interested in picking a service project," and asked the commission to allow participation during the workday and to publicize the event on the county Facebook page.

Commissioners discussed timing and logistics, noting they would need to ensure enough staff coverage in county offices. Possible project targets mentioned included walking paths, fairgrounds and road cleanup near Milford; staff said county road crews could assist with specific projects. Commissioners asked staff to select a county project and to bring scheduling details back to the board; at least one commissioner referenced a target date for planning by early September.
