Evansville Board awards $280,800 emergency storm‑sewer contract for First Avenue

The Evansville Board of Public Works approved a $280,800 emergency construction contract with Blankenberger Brothers Inc. to replace a failing corrugated metal storm sewer along the east side of First Avenue.

Board members voted to approve the contract during the meeting after staff presented four quotes and said the work had already been deemed an emergency. The work includes excavation, removal and replacement of a section of corrugated metal pipe with reinforced concrete pipe under project number 25-008.

“If you recall, the board had actually approved this to be deemed emergency work on First Avenue,” Mister Wyle, a city staff member, told the board as he read background on the item. Staff then read four quotes: Blankenberger Brothers Inc., $280,800; Sam Trucking, $298,982.20; Dye Brothers Lumber and Construction Company, $329,421; and Bridal (company name as read), $445,744.50. Board members moved, seconded and approved awarding the contract to Blankenberger Brothers, the lowest responsive quote.

City staff said a formal construction contract will be prepared and brought back to the board. The item was presented as a follow-up to an earlier emergency declaration on the same location, and board members briefly acknowledged the engineering department’s work in coordinating the response.
