The Signal Mountain Town Council agreed to put a resolution on a future agenda authorizing staff to purchase the town’s budgeted annual allocation of garbage carts in a single bulk order, using a purchasing agreement advertised by the City of Tucson that allows other government entities to piggyback.
Public Works staff told council that the durable carts (Toter brand) currently in use are available through that purchasing agreement and that buying in bulk reduces repeated freight charges (noted as $17.35 per shipment in staff comments). Staff said the town stores new carts at the Public Works facility and the garage and that bulk buying will allow the town to keep a larger on‑hand inventory for replacements and reduce per‑unit shipping costs.
Council members discussed local sourcing and color/reflective options for cans; staff noted that Toter has regional operations and that alternative colors are available if the town wishes to align cans with town branding. Council asked staff to prepare a resolution for the next meeting so the single‑purchase option can be approved under the FY26 budgeted line.
