The district reported space constraints in full-day kindergarten at Pollard Elementary and near-capacity at other sites; administrators said they were monitoring deposits, paperwork and recent kindergarten-camp attendance to finalize class placements.
The Timberlane Regional School District presented an elementary enrollment update at the Aug. 14 meeting showing near-capacity kindergarten rosters ahead of the fall term.
Lucy Kanogas reported that, as of the reporting date, Pollard Elementary's full-day kindergarten was full with two classrooms totaling 40 students. Sandown North had two grade-level pressure points within three students of capacity, but no grade level exceeded capacity. The report indicated some registrations remained incomplete due to missing paperwork or deposits; as of the meeting "outstanding" lists contained several families working to complete enrollment steps.
Kanogas said the district had kindergarten camp activities during the summer that helped teachers and administrators assess incoming students and plan placements. She told the board that if families continue to register late, the district currently has space at other schools and administrators would recommend transfers where needed rather than adding new classrooms at this time.
Board members asked what happens when a class is full. Kanogas said the recommendation was to place a child at another school with available capacity if registrations continued to come in late, and to monitor outstanding deposits and documentation; principals and placement teams were reviewing kindergarten-camp attendance to finalize placements.
Ending: The administration said it will continue monitoring enrollment closely through the start of school and will inform the board if capacity pressures require personnel changes or new classroom openings.
