Council approves SB1-funded road list; members request bike-lane striping where feasible

The Auburn City Council on Aug. 11 approved a resolution adopting the list of road projects to be funded by SB1 (the Road Repair and Accountability Act) for the 2025–26 gas tax fund budget.
During discussion, Council member Davis asked staff to ensure streets on designated bike routes are striped for bike lanes where feasible. Public works staff and the presenter said the city will stripe Hill and Shockley as part of the current project list and will include marked bike lanes on overlay projects where road width and the master plan allow it. Council members emphasized a desire to avoid piecemeal two-block bike lanes that would terminate abruptly; staff said projects will be planned for cohesion and to align with the city’s master plan recommendations before striping.
Council moved and seconded the resolution and adopted it by roll call. The vote recorded Council member Bridal Harris (Aye), Council member Davis (Aye), Council member Holmes (Aye) and Mayor Amara (Yes). The motion passed.
The staff presentation said the list of SB1 projects includes arterial overlays and streets identified for repair; the council directed staff to coordinate striping decisions with the bicycle master plan to avoid isolated short segments. No additional funding beyond the SB1 allocation was authorized at the meeting.
