City reports progress on $4M group of drinking-water projects; several lines nearly complete

He listed project-level status and contract values as follows: East Cherokee (100–2000 block) contract value about $1,300,000 and roughly 95% complete; West Main (includes South Hays and parts of Cherokee) bid $428,000 and in preconstruction; South Van Buren (700 block area) $370,000 and in preconstruction; East Olive (100–400 blocks) $475,000 and about 25% complete; East Cottonwood (100–200 blocks) $222,000 and about 99% complete; East Hickory (100–400 blocks) $461,000 and about 98% complete. Jason said the grouping touched about 333 water meters and that many of the projects were designed in-house by city engineers.
Commissioners asked whether loan forgiveness was possible; staff said the package may include roughly $1,000,000 of forgiveness or grant-like assistance that made the loan terms favorable. City leadership emphasized that in-house engineering design and project management reduced costs compared with outside firms.
No new decisions were made; staff described the communication process for affected residents (press release at notice to proceed, contractor door‑hanger requirements and signage) and noted crews will provide advance notice for significant impacts such as water shutoffs or driveway obstructions.
