Tulsa County to expand recreation center hours to seven days a week starting Aug. 18

At its Aug. 4 meeting, the Tulsa County Board of County Commissioners heard an announcement that the county’s recreation centers will move from five days to seven days a week beginning Aug. 18.
John, a parks staff member, told the board, "effective August 18, because of the gracious graciousness of our budget board and our elected parks rec centers are moving to 7 days a week, starting the eighteenth." He said the parks themselves have always been open seven days a week but the change applies to the county-run recreation centers.
County staff attributed the change to a combination of a budget board allocation for an extra day of staffing and “some operational efficiencies” implemented by Mike, another parks staff member. The board did not vote on a separate ordinance; staff presented the operational update during the announcements portion of the meeting.
Board members asked only procedural questions about public notice; staff said a public announcement would be distributed. No funding amounts or staffing counts were given at the meeting.
The expansion follows seasonal and programming adjustments the department described earlier in the summer; staff also mentioned continuing pool and special-event programming at county facilities.
Tulsa County officials said they will release a public notice with start dates and program schedules ahead of the Aug. 18 change.
