County honors Clean Slate tattoo removal program on 31st anniversary

The Board of Supervisors presented a commendation to the Clean Slate tattoo removal program, marking the program’s 31st year. The program was founded as a partnership between the City of San Jose and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center to support youth affected by gang involvement and other barriers to education and employment.
Supervisor Young introduced the commendation and highlighted services the program provides to people ages 14 to 25, including tattoo removal, mentorship, counseling, life skills, job development and referrals to community resources. Aurelia Bailey, division manager of the Clean Slate program, accepted the recognition and described the program’s role in removing visible barriers to employment and education. Bailey said volunteer physicians, the Valley Medical Center Foundation and community supporters have been essential to the program’s work and encouraged medical volunteers to join upcoming clinic days. Bailey also noted the program’s next class start date (September 23) and invited young people and interested volunteers to contact Supervisor Young’s office for information.
Board members applauded Clean Slate staff and participants and joined program staff for a photo.
