Kern County Human Resources to host Career Expo Sept. 27; sheriff's office to accept tests for deputy positions

Kern County Human Resources will host the fourth annual Kern County Career Expo on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the County Administrative Center, 1115 Truxtun Avenue, county representatives said.
A Kern County Human Resources representative said the event will include more than 20 county departments where applicants can speak with hiring staff, apply for jobs, attend workshops on navigating county recruitment and, in some cases, test on site for positions.
The Kern County Sheriff's Office will be recruiting at the expo and offering testing opportunities for applicants, county staff said. A county representative said certain Sheriff’s Office positions require a valid government‑issued driver’s license and that applicants for some entry classifications must be at least 18 years old. The county advised that testing for these positions is first‑come, first‑served, and applicants should arrive early and bring a valid government‑issued ID; testing is expected to last about two to two‑and‑a‑half hours.
Human Resources staff framed the Career Expo as an opportunity to connect residents with hiring departments across a range of skill sets and to provide guidance for those seeking careers in public service. The county said attendees can meet hiring staff, learn about positions across departments, and access recruitment resources at the event.
