Latin Nation returns to Downtown Bakersfield; exhibit at Arts Council of Kern Gallery through Oct. 23

Latin Nation 12, a two‑day celebration of Latinx arts and culture, returned to the Eastchester Arts District in Downtown Bakersfield after a five‑year hiatus, and the Arts Council of Kern said the festival expanded beyond gallery walls into a neighborhood block party.
An Arts Council of Kern representative described Latin Nation as “a culmination of the arts and cultures of Kern County that support Latino arts and Latino culture,” saying the event brought together dancers, cooks, painters and other creators to showcase community voices.
The Arts Council of Kern partnered with Don Martin of Metro Galleries and the founder of Latin Nation to broaden the event’s footprint, organizers said. The festival included performances, food and gallery exhibits intended to let artists present personal stories in public settings.
One event participant, speaking at the festival, described wearing a Día de los Muertos outfit themed around an ofrenda, saying the imagery on her dress represented family members who have passed.
The Latin Nation exhibit is open and free at the Arts Council of Kern Gallery, 1020 Eighteenth Street, through Oct. 23. The Arts Council published the gallery hours and exhibit dates as part of the festival announcement.
