Kern County Libraries announced 13 new library card designs at Beale Memorial Library as part of National Library Card Sign‑Up Month, and staff outlined how residents can sign up and the range of services available with a card.
Kern County Library staff said the new designs let cardholders “tell a story” with imagery that reflects the county’s cultural and genre interests, from fantasy and gothic themes to classic western styles. The cards are available at library branches and the bookmobile.
Library staff described the enrollment process as simple: adults must bring a current form of identification. For minors 17 and under, a guardian must be present to complete the application. Residents may apply in person at any Kern County Library location, fill out an online form, or sign up at the bookmobile. Staff also noted replacement cards with the new designs are available for existing cardholders.
Kern County Library staff highlighted services accessible with a library card beyond physical checkouts, including ebooks, audiobooks, movies, music, comic books and graphic novels, online databases, free tutoring through tutor.com, test‑preparation materials and citizenship study resources. The county framed the redesign as a way to promote library use and expand awareness of digital resources among patrons.
The new card designs are available now at Kern County Library locations and on the bookmobile. For details on eligibility or to apply online, Kern County Library locations and official county web pages list application options and branch hours.
